Sock Technology

The Lorpen research and development team has a clear mission: "TO DESIGN AND BUILD THE BEST TECHNICAL SOCKS IN THE WORLD". As designers and manufacturers of our own socks, we have the knowledge and insight to achieve that goal. Lorpen has been able to expand sock technologies from what was existing in the market. We have set two new technology levels not existing before, two levels only achievable with Lorpen's knitting technology level, T3 and T3+.

Using just one fiber when knitting socks is wasted potential. At Lorpen, we combine different fibers to maximize their warming or cooling properties. We lab test different combinations in order to find which ones offer the most benefits to athletes. Different climates require different fibers. While Merino wool is great for the winter, it's too warm for the summer. Even sheep don't wear wool in the summer. That's why we use different technolgies to keep your feet comfortable.

Keeping feet fresh all day long is now possible thanks to Lorpen's STOP - Scent Blocking Technology. STOP Technology inhibits bacterial growth and creates a sock that doesn't stink even after hours of heavy use. The fibers of Deocell® (-COOH), are based on the fiber Tencel® and when they come into contact with the molecules that cause the acrid odour of sweat they react, transforming them and releasing odorless molecules instead. STOP Technology does not wear off and has been proven to be 98% effective after 100 washes.  This technology is perfect for hunters who need to hide their scent or people who spend many hours in sweaty work boots and don't want to come home to smelly.

Lorpen introduces technology developed to offer precision, function and certified quality in a product category that is driven by performance athletes.

Compressing the muscles and the blood vessels is not something we should take lightly. Just selling garments that fit tighter without control. Consumers should ask themselves a few questions before they purchase compression products:

  • Do they consider my calf measurements and not just my shoe size, so that it will really adapt correctly to my calf and lower leg?
  •
  • What is the level of compression that I will achieve?
  •
  • Is it controlled or certified?
  •
  • Am I losing other key performance features when I am buying a compression sock for my selected activity?

The calf sleeve that Lorpen presents in the collection guarantees a compression level that is medically certified (30mmHg in the ankle and 20mmHg in the calf as a base) and offers clear benefits for the athlete:

  • Improves the athlete’s performance by reducing the calf muscle vibrations during exercise, allowing improved oxygen saturation to the blood to delay muscle fatigue and facilitating an improved recovery when used after exercise.
  •
  • Being a sleeve instead of a full sock, it could be used together with a Lorpen T3 sock that provides optimum moisture management, for a dryer and cooler foot environment. It requires less washing than the traditional compression sock and the athlete obtains perfect adaptability and compression. The store can stock less sizes and still fit all customers with a true performance product.

Tencel® is a natural, man made fibre which is also referred to as lyocell. Made with wood pulp from sustainable tree farms, Tencel® fibers are created though the use of nanotechnology in an award-winning closed-loop process that recovers or decomposes all solvents and emissions. Certified by the international Forest Stewardship Council and 100% biodegradable.

Merino Wool is made of the finest grades of wool from Merino sheep. It is extremely soft and comfortable against the skin. The core of Merino Wool is hydrophilous (retains moisture) and breathable. It can provide warmth even when wet and is the intermediate layer in many of our socks designed for cold temperatures.
Modal® is made of European beechwood and is completely natural. Modal® is C02 neutral and is produced at the Lenzing site in Austria. 50% more hydrophyllic (water-absorbent)than cotton and exceptionally soft against the skin.

COOLMAX® fabric is the performance fabric that includes an effective fiber-based moisture management system. The system can move perspiration away from the body, and through the fabric, where it can evaporate quickly, allowing the wearer to feel cooler and more comfortable.

Polyester yarn developed by Primaloft® (world leader in artificial thermal insulation in technical clothing) which combines 30% Primaloft® fibres with 70% recycled post-consumer polyester. The result is a soft, thermal insulated hydrophobic fibre which expels rather than absorbs moisture.

THERMOLITE® provides warmth and comfort without weight, even when wet. It's the lightweight fabric that provides heavy-duty performance. It dries 20% faster than other insulating fabrics, and 50% faster than cotton. THERMOLITE® is the perfect layering fabric because it's comfortable and lightweight, allowing more freedom of movement..

Schoeller Polycolon® maintains your body’s performance and keeps you dry for longer, no matter how much you perspire, by wicking moisture away from your foot. It is very light and durable and is a hydrophobic material that dries very quickly. Schoeller Polycolon® has anti-microbial properties that help to prevent odor and bacteria from building up on the foot.

Primaloft® Yarn is made up of ultra-fine polyester fibers which are finer than cashmere, resulting in a luxuriously soft feel while providing unparalleled moisture wicking. When hiking, climbing or doing any aerobic activity, your body works up a sweat and emits heat and perspiration, but when you suddenly sit idle, you can easily start to freeze with an insulation that absorbs water. Primaloft® fibers wick moisture away from the skin and trap body heat.

Polartec® Power Stretch® padding provides warmth without increasing weight. The smooth outer layer is wind and abrasion resistant; the soft inner layer pulls moisture away from your skin keeping you dry, warm and comfortable.

A layer of Polartec® Power Dry® provides antibacterial protection. Feature a patented bi-component knit construction that uses different yarns on either side of the fabric. This creates two different surfaces: one that is optimized to move moisture away from the skin, the other to dry quickly.
